What is The Food Illusion? First, let me define illusion…
il·lu·sion n
something that deceives the senses or mind, for example, by appearing to be one thing when it is in fact another
This is exactly what processed foods are to us – an illusion – or something that appears to be healthy (low fat, low carb, vitamin fortified, no trans fat, contains omega-3s, lowers your cholesterol…I could go on and on with the food industry’s health claims) when processed foods are in fact the very thing that is making a lot of Americans unhealthy, fat and sick with chronic diseases including cancer.
So you are probably thinking – how does this apply to me? I already eat much healthier than the average American. Well that’s exactly what I used to think too. We rarely ate fast food or frozen prepared meals, never drank soda, and bought very few sugary cereals. Yet, what I learned from the book “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan was shocking, unexpected and enough to transform a formerly close-minded, white bread loving girl forever. And after seeing the positive effects of this transformation first-hand I am so convinced that not only will we never eat the way we used to again, but I have taken the time out of my busy schedule to start this blog in the hopes of convincing as many other people as possible – so listen up!
Stay tuned…there will be lots more coming your way. Also, subscribe (on the right-hand side of this page) so you are notified when new blog posts are added to the site. And please don’t forget to read my disclaimer.
If you think that book was good, you should read every book there is by Marilu Henner – she even has cookbooks for kids and pictures of how to store the food that you should be eating – and why. Warning you – her first book is so awesome – it will change your life and your cupboards….forever.
Hey Teik! I will definitely check out that book!
You go girl . . . I’m all ears!!! But I have to first finished all the processed crap you gave me when you cleaned out your pantry and fridge!!!! That’s ok, just poison your neighbors, what happened to LOVE THY NEIGHBOR!!!!!!
You are too funny! I did feel kind of bad giving it to you, but you were open arms! LOL I think it would be fabulous though if you wanted to start to make some changes too…I would love to see how it would go over with older kids like Jake and Riley!
Yay, Lisa! This is great!! Can’t wait to learn more!

I’ve been on a similar journey for about 6 years now. Really happy to have found your blogs thanks to a mention on the Food Inc. Facebook page.
You might want to read The Unhealthy Truth. I read it recently and enjoyed it for the most part. I didn’t find many new (to me) resources, but those just starting out on this process *chuckle* might really learn a lot.
Can’t wait to try the recipes you’ve posted. Great blog!
Good for you keeping this up for so long and thanks for the tip on the book!
I should note I haven’t given up sugar or chocolate. 😉
I gladly partake of a good chunk of dark chocolate here and there. LOL
I hope you enjoy the book!
